As Athlone is equidistant from both Dublin Airport and Shannon Airport, it easily accessible no matter where you land.

 

Dublin Airport


Probably the handiest route from Dublin airport to Athlone is by bus. The 747 shuttle bus will bring you into Busarus ( Dublin's Main Bus Station). Once you arrive at the station you can then take the number 20 to Athlone. Buses to Athlone leave every hour and the journey takes approximately two hours, and a return trip will cost you about €17.

 

A private bus to Galway with a stop in Athlone is also available from Dublin Airport. Make sure when you get the bus that you dont take the express service or you could end up in Galway.

Shannon Airport

If you arrive in Shannon Airport you can continue your journey to Athlone by Bus or by car.

 

By Bus

 

Unfortunately there are no direct links to Athlone town, once you arrive at the airport will need to take Bus Eireann's route 51 to Galway bus station. Once you arrive in Galway you can then take the number 20 to Athlone.

 

By car

 

If you feel up to it you can also drive to Athlone from the airport. This option is the shortest and will give you more time to enjoy your holiday here in Athlone.

 

Once have rented your car from one of the many stands outside the arrivals gate, you can begin your journey. Once you leave the car park you will need to take the N19 past Shannon town, you can then following the N18 on to Gort. Once you arrive in Gort you can need to take the N66 out of Gort. You stay on the N66 until come to the N6 Junction. Once you arrive the junction will need to take the exit for Athlone.
